STRENGTH
Scalmalloy CX has been developed to have exceptional strength at cryogenic temperatures while retaining a good level of fracture toughness and ductility. It also has exceptional toughness at room temperature.
Ideally suited to cryogenic applications in spacecraft and the emerging propulsion technologies for aviation using cryogenic liquid hydrogen fuels, Scalmalloy CX can enable significant weight savings thanks to the high yield strength which exceeds 530 MPa at temperatures as low as 20K.
CORROSION RESISTANCE
Scalmalloy CX has the same excellent corrosion resistance as the original Scalmalloy material, so you can be confident that this material will perform in harsh environmental conditions. The material can be anodised to further enhance the surface protection.

DESIGN FREEDOM
With Scalmalloy CX you can have both the material properties of a forging combined with the geometric freedom of Additive Manufacturing, which surpasses that of casting.

We can weld Scalmalloy CX parts to make larger assemblies, overcoming the size limitations of AM, while retaining the design freedom and material properties which Scalmalloy CX provides.

Components like double walled pipe junctions are no problem for this technology!

CONFIDENCE
Scalmalloy CX is a relatively new materials, but it builds upon more than 10 years experience with the original Scalmalloy material, and has already undergone extensive testing including tensile, fracture toughness, fatigue crack growth, and more.
